Making Kale Cool–In School!

The Active Learning Environment School (TALES), PS 244 in Queens, New York, a 2015 National Blue Ribbon School, has been at the forefront of healthy school lunches for several years. Students learn not only about healthy food and nutrition; they prompted the school leadership to remove sugary drinks and provide vegetarian meals. Learn more at our spotlight on TALES and hear Principal Robert Groff, III, explain how and why they made these changes and what they do for kids.

Meanwhile, all U.S. students between the ages of 8 – 12 are invited to put on their own chef hats and get cooking. First Lady Michelle Obama encourages students to invent anĀ original recipe for school lunch that is healthy, affordable, and delicious. Winners (one from each state) will be celebrated at the 2016 Kids’ State Dinner at the White House.
