2013 Schools Take Up Video Cameras

National Blue Ribbon Schools have many ways to showcase their successes. Several 2013 schools have used video to celebrate and highlight what they do well.

On a mission from “President Obama,” a pair of bumbling, not-too-bright Blues Brothers stumble around the campus of Robert Frost Middle School (Rockville, MD), from the nurse’s station to the gymnasium, looking to deliver a national blue ribbon to “Dr. Jay” (principal Dr. Joey Jones). Includes an original rap/soul song.

Students and staff at Richard Shields Elementary School (Lewes, DE) produced an energetic video short about their “super” skills.

Brief interviews with the principal, teachers, students, and parents at Deephaven Elementary School (Wayzata, MN) describe how reinforcing systems, from behavior and study habits to parent involvement, make their school work.

Students at Lakenheath Middle School, a Department of Defense school in England, produced this video of some of the many ways they learn STEM, from primitive fire starting to sound-operated robots.

Intercut with video of students in motion, Missouri Governor Nixon honors students and staff at Nixa High School (Nixa, MO) for setting a “very high bar,” citing outstanding achievement scores and praising the “talented teachers, dedicated administrators, and sensible policies” that make Nixa outstanding.

Baltimore City Public Schools celebrate two National Blue Ribbon Schools this year, Charlesmount and Chadwick, as beacons for other Baltimore schools. State Superintendent Lillian Lowery is on hand for the festivities.

Superintendent Jeffrey Moss tells a jubilant crowd of students  at Okatie Elementary School (Okatie, SC) that their school has won the National Blue Ribbon School award.
