Burwell Elementary

Burwell Elementary "Reading for Touchdowns", where parents and community members fill the school to support the importance of reading.

“When You Do Good things, Good Things Happen!” This is the mantra at Burwell Elementary. You can hear it shouted once a month at Longhorn Pride, an assembly where students celebrate successes recognized by faculty, staff, and community.

Burwell Elementary is in a rural community located in north central Nebraska known as the Sandhills of Nebraska. The community is rich in tradition and the school plays a major role in helping define who we are as a community. The administration, teachers, parents, students and community members take a great deal of pride in creating an atmosphere where students receive a high quality education.

The Principal, teachers, staff, parents, and community are like a spider web, woven intricately together to ensure students do not fall between the cracks. The school board supports faculty and staff by reducing class sizes and allocating funding for updated technology, supplies, and resources. The teachers and staff support the parents and students by doing what it takes to make sure students accomplish yearly growth. The students and parents support the school by getting homework done and coming to school prepared to learn. The strong bond between our school and community helps to encourage our students to become good citizens both in and out of school.

Our curricular resources and enrichment classes plus K-6 foreign language ensures a well-rounded education for our students. The Longhorn Pride, character education program at Burwell Elementary, safeguards the character, values and work ethics that help students from the Mid-West be successful anywhere in the world.

Martin Luther King Jr. said it best when he said, “Intelligence plus character- that is the goal of true education.”
