Young Women's College Preparatory Academy - Houston, TX

STEM day at YWCPA

STEM day at YWCPA

In 2011, the Houston Independent School District opened the Young Women's College Preparatory Academy (YWCPA) in partnership with the Young Women's Preparatory Network (YWPN). YWPN has opened eight other schools in Texas. YWPN schools are recognized as offering one of the most distinctive high school leadership programs in the nation. The YWCPA campus is located in the Third Ward neighborhood in Houston, Texas.

At Young Women's College Preparatory Academy, students are engaged in rigorous academic curriculum centering on courses at the Pre-Advanced Placement (Pre-AP) and Advanced Placement (AP) levels. The Advanced Placement Program prepares scholars for postsecondary academic success while allowing them to earn college credit before graduation. YWCPA makes use of problem-based learning and cross-curricular instructional strategies to help its students develop the critical thinking skills that will allow them to comprehend complex content and to navigate the real world outside of and after school.

In addition to its standard academic curriculum, YWCPA offers students STEM-focused instruction in the areas of engineering design, biosciences, computer science, and information technology. The campus partners with local companies to present advanced STEM learning experiences and the emerging technology concepts they need to pursue degrees in engineering, biosciences, geology, geophysics and global energy management.

YWCPA students are also actively engaged in a robust college readiness program designed to create a seamless pathway from middle school through the attainment of a college degree. YWCPA has had a 100% college acceptance rate for every graduating class.
