NBRS Badge for Frederick Elementary School

Frederick Elementary School - Frederick, OK

S.T.E.M. for all students

S.T.E.M. for all students

Frederick Elementary School is located in rural Southwest Oklahoma serving students from diverse backgrounds and socioeconomic statuses. The success of Frederick Elementary can be attributed to the hard work and dedication of teachers and staff working with students and families. Students are engaged and motivated to learn in a positive environment that is clean, colorful and conducive to learning. The staff at Frederick Elementary has high expectations and creates an energy to excite students so each day they are ready to learn and be challenged.

Low scores for reading were a challenge for our school. Teachers were trained in the Science of Reading and a multi-tiered system of support was added to the day. Students love "Flex" time. Flex is a multi-sensory intervention focusing on phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, comprehension, and fluency. After testing and screening, students attend a class that specifically focuses on the skill they need to address. As students' needs are met, they are reassessed and moved to the Flex group that fits their current needs.

Frederick Elementary strives to meet the needs of all students. Additional programs for students are available to promote learning. Being in a rural community, agriculture is important, so teachers utilize the Ag in the Classroom program. Students are involved in music, art, and P.E. classes. They also have the opportunity to participate in robotics and STEM activities. Students are equipped with technology education through the use of Chromebooks and Google Classroom.
