Memorial Middle School Sources of Strength

Memorial Middle School Sources of Strength

Memorial Middle School is located on Minot Air Force Base in North Dakota. Nearly all of Memorial's students are military dependents. The staff at Memorial seeks to provide a first-class education to a student population that is highly mobile and diverse. Our approach is to support the whole child in a variety of ways, including both social-emotional learning and academics. Additionally, the students at Memorial benefit from a wealth of resources available through Minot Public Schools, a public school district of nearly 8,000 students in a core city of approximately 50,000 people. In partnership, the base community and Minot Public Schools strive to meet the needs of all Memorial Middle School learners.

Students come to Memorial from around the world, moving frequently as one or both parents pursue military careers in service to our nation. Working within learning communities, our teachers strive to meet the needs of these students. Teachers build positive relationships with students, set high standards, and engage in reflective practice in pursuit of continuous improvement. Teachers are free to engage in both the art and science of teaching, using their professional judgment to choose the instructional practices that best help their students meet standards. Teachers are encouraged to implement a variety of instructional strategies.

Through these efforts, students leave Memorial empowered to continue their education in a rapidly changing world.
