Hands-on, small group, manipulative math lesson in 4th grade.

Bloom-Vernon Elementary is a great place for kids, as well as adults. We pride ourselves in doing what is best for kids. Part of doing what is best for kids includes modeling positive behaviors and relationships, setting high expectations for everyone, as well as understanding Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs model.

One of the many things we do well, in addition to teaching kids to high levels, is to make sure basic needs are met. Kids who come to school experiencing hunger, anger, hurt, or a plethora of trauma related issues, often come to school to have their needs met. The quote, "Students who are loved at home, come to school to learn, and students who aren't, come to school to be loved," resonates throughout the inner walls of the culture that has been created. We error on the side of loving all our kids. Nearly one out of every five students in our school receive backpacks, school supplies, weekend food supplies, shoes, coats, holiday gifts, and the like. This is possible because of the local community support, where serving others runs deep in our veins.

If we were to select the single thing our school does really well, it is enriching an ever giving culture where serving others and meeting the needs of kids is top priority. Once kids know how much we care by meeting basic needs, learning to high levels occurs. "Bloom-Vernon is a special place" is often stated, not only through our words, but more through our actions.
