Shoreham-Wading River High School During School to Community Meeting

Shoreham-Wading River High School (SWRHS) is located in a small, caring community on the north shore of Long Island, New York. We currently serve 775 students in grades 9-12 who graduate at a rate of 98%.

SWRHS has a strong tradition of building community partnerships in order to provide our students with authentic, engaging learning experiences, which promote critical thinking skills that they will use in post-secondary education and future careers. Our School-to-Community Program (S2C) connects students with local entrepreneurs and organizations at guest speaking events to learn how to operate small and large businesses and what it takes to be successful, job shadowing and internships where students have firsthand opportunities to consider potential career interests, and mock interview experiences to refine resumes and prepare for meaningful exchanges with future employers. In addition, our annual STEAM Symposium brings together students, families, and S2C members for a night of hands-on learning activities and showcase of student projects.

S2C also benefits our innovative AP Capstone Program. AP Capstone provides a unique curriculum for high school students to master valuable research, presentation, public speaking, and collaboration skills. S2C members serve as expert advisors to our AP Research students, who work diligently all-year on a research question of their choice and then present and defend their work to a panel.

We are proud of our community's unending support of education at SWRHS and we look forward to the success of our future students.
