As the sun comes up over the small farming community in Nicholas County, West Virginia, the lights from Mt. Lookout Elementary are already glowing as the faculty and staff make final preparations and get ready to greet students. The students here are educated not only for academic success, but also for success in life.

The teachers at Mt. Lookout Elementary have high expectations for all students and strive to deliver the most effective instruction to provide advancement for each student. They work tirelessly to employ known strategies for success, and use creativity when a student requires additional or modified instruction. Families and community volunteers are instrumental in the education environment. Volunteers assist with special educational presentations, provide financial support, assist with projects, and participate in classroom activities. A current favorite is the read aloud program that has been recently implemented. Communication with the stakeholders largely contributes to out success. While the time spent in the classroom is important, the encouragement students receive at home is invaluable. The trust and support from families are the final pieces to our continued goal of educating students for success in life.

As the school day draws to a close, faculty and staff eagerly remind students of lessons that day and help them safely board the buses. As the doors close and the sun sets, staff busy themselves to prepare for tomorrow's lesson.
