STEM Middle School in Dearborn Heights, Michigan

Dearborn Public Schools in Southeast Michigan prides itself on offering numerous educational opportunities and options for its students. STEM Middle School was created based on teacher, student, and community feedback. STEM Middle School is a 6th – 8th grade option for students to participate in learning that is focused on a problem-based, technology rich curriculum that enables and empowers students and faculty to engage in professional innovation and independent problem solving. At STEM Middle School we strive to implement Project Based Learning; interdisciplinary lessons; a focus on 21st Century Thinking Skills; creative and innovative thinking; the delivery of a rigorous and real-world science, mathematics, engineering and technology education curriculum; as well as innovative teaching and learning techniques that challenge the students and focus on their strengths.

Every student at STEM takes a STEM Applications class each of their three years with us. During this class students are presented with real-world engineering and technology challenges where they need to use, not only their skills and knowledge from other classes, but also their ability to think outside the box and collaborate with peers and with members of the community. Our students demonstrate use of these skills through our robotics team, the STEM Bots; through their participation in Future City competitions; and through their daily application of 21st Century Thinking Skills in their learning. STEM Middle School has a 98% PSAT achievement rate and over a 95% proficiency percentage on the state M-STEP assessment tests in reading and math.
