Luxmanor Elementary School - Rockville, MD

Luxmanor Elementary School is located in Rockville, Maryland in the Washington, D.C. suburbs. The close proximity to the nation's capital attracts families from around the world, which contributes to an international student population from 52 different countries speaking 25 different languages. This has contributed to an 18% mobility rate and 28% of students receiving ESOL services. We are also home to two self-contained special education classes for highly impacted students and three self-contained preschool special education classes.

Diverse student learning needs are met through collaborative problem solving and planning that focuses on the rigors of a challenging curriculum. Specialists, ESOL teachers, and special education teachers plan with grade level teams to scaffold learning to ensure all students are accessing grade level content and enrichment opportunities. Students' emotional well-being is addressed through counseling lessons focused on decision making, character education, social skills, conflict resolution, self-esteem, social media, internet and personal safety, and career awareness. Class meetings, Restorative Circles, and town hall meetings focus on building community within classes and the school.

Families play a vital role in the success of the school. Family members can be found volunteering every day in classrooms. The PTA also sponsors multiple traditions and events throughout the school year that enhance the learning experiences of all students. The staff holds high expectations for all students, ensuring there are no barriers to success for each child. We believe that each and every child matters and outcomes should not be predictable by race, ethnicity, or socioeconomic status.
