Sterling Grade School serves 287 students in pre-school through 6th grade in Sterling, Kansas, a rural community of 2,500 people. Local employment is based largely on agriculture, oil and gas production, Sterling College, and small manufacturing companies. The community is vulnerable to the influences of global forces and stresses on agricultural and oil industries have contributed to a challenging economic situation for our community. However, the families of Sterling are resilient in the face of these challenges and our students benefit from strong community support. These community relationships help students make connections between what they learn in class and how it applies to the community.

Sterling Grade School offers programs that support and challenge students. Academic competitions allow students to develop problem solving skills, analytical thinking, creativity, and team building. Academic assistance during the school day and in after school programs also give students additional support by providing small group instruction based upon individual student needs.

Sterling Grade School was recognized for our student accomplishments by being named a 2016 National Title I Distinguished School for continuous high achievement. Our students had the highest average assessment performance index of all Title I schools in Kansas for two consecutive years.

Sterling Grade School continues to build positive student relationships in a caring environment. Student engagement is critical to our success and we celebrate individual and school wide accomplishments together. Staff members of Sterling Grade School maintain high expectations for each student and themselves. Together, we are dedicated to every student's success.
