NBRS Badge for Pisgah Elementary School

Pisgah Elementary School - Candler, NC

Pisgah

Pisgah's life continues through generations of staff, students, and community!

Students at Pisgah Elementary School are challenged through meaningful contexts, problem solving and real-world experiences to acquire the knowledge and skill necessary to become lifelong learners and responsible citizens who can adapt to a changing world in the 21st century.

This mission statement drives what we do at Pisgah, a rural, Title 1 school with 176 K-4 students. Fifth graders relocated to a new intermediate school, leaving us much needed space. Nestled at the foot of Mt. Pisgah in western North Carolina, our thirteen-acre campus continually enhances learning through our wetland/outdoor classroom, creek, fitness trail, extensive playground equipment, picnic areas, and ball fields. Our small size allows close rapport with students and families- we refer to our school as the Pisgah family. For ten years, Pisgah has been recognized as a High Performance School, scoring among the top percentiles on state tests. A significant milestone is recognition as a National Title I Distinguished School for the past two years- high expectations and academic rigor are hallmarks of our school.

Numerous field trips, tutoring opportunities and clubs enhance learning for all students. School-wide Friendship Assemblies, Career Days, Ecology Week, and World Culture Days challenge students to broaden horizons and meet their full academic and social potential, as do afterschool clubs such as Trout Club, Recess Club, Destination Imagination, and Dirt Works. Families and community groups support our school by participating in programs and initiatives such as our Community Garden. We build bright tomorrows for students; we are a proud Roadrunner Family!
