NBRS Badge for Cory Elementary School

Cory Elementary School - Denver, CO

At Cory Elementary we LOVE learning and laughter!

At Cory Elementary we LOVE learning and laughter!

Cory Elementary is located in Denver, Colorado, nestled in the historic Cory-Merrill Neighborhood. Cory Elementary has been designated as a "Distinguished" Denver Public School serving neighborhood, choice and highly gifted children.

Cory is a magnet site for highly gifted and talented (HGT) students. All teachers have been trained in highly gifted education and hold a GT Endorsement. The GT/HGT students are integrated into each classroom with non-GT peers. This approach is what makes Cory unique: each classroom contains a wonderful spectrum of learners, providing an enriched learning environment for all students.

This integrated model allows our GT/HGT students to interact with intellectual as well as same-age peers, which provides a wealth of opportunities for social growth, and gives them the opportunity to have "the elementary school experience" at the same time as their exceptional academic needs are met.

Our non-GT/HGT identified students also benefit from our integrated model; they are exposed to deeper critical thinking processes and participate in more sophisticated discourse. As students hear others using accountable talk to challenge each other's thinking and build on each other's ideas, they soon take part in more rigorous student discourse.

We also take pride in living our Cory Creed, which focuses on the joy of learning and the importance of community. A portion of our Creed reads "we love learning and laughter", and "we celebrate each other's differences and accomplishments". We are proud and honored to be a Blue Ribbon School!
