NBRS Badge for Howard Elementary School
Howard Elementary School - Green Bay, WI
Customized learning paths based on learning style, interests, and strengths in literacy.
Howard Elementary School has created a culture of excellence using four guiding beliefs: Relationships, Strong Foundation in Literacy With Early Intervention, Data Driven and Growing Teacher Capacity.
Relationships: At the core of everything we do is the trust and belief in one another as educators and what we do with our students. Developing meaningful relationships with our students is paramount in fostering their academic success, giving them a sense of belonging and confidence in what they can learn and achieve.
Strong Foundation in Literacy With Early Intervention: Scaffolding for each student, enabling them to learn at their reading level and become competent readers along with developing a love for reading. High success with early, individualized, and intensive intervention and a focus on accelerated learning with authentic reading and writing tasks.
Data Driven: Synthesizing individual data guides us to focused instruction resulting in student learning. Looking at a variety of assessments also allows us to understand, develop and support the "whole child" as it relates to areas other than academics.
Growing Teacher Capacity: All the important work that we do in school depends on our teachers. Intentional and purposeful structures are in place that provide opportunities for participation in teams, study groups, vertical communities, and action research teams. Skills include relational skills, support in maintaining our school's sense of purpose, and the ability to improve instructional practices thru reflection and increased knowledge.
