Riverheads High School - Staunton, VA

Located in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, Riverheads High School (RHS) prides itself on student success and tradition. Serving approximately 475 students, the school’s mission is to provide an environment that encourages the academic and personal growth of all students. The staff at RHS work collaboratively with parents, community members, and fellow staff members in order to create positive learning outcomes in critical thinking, problem solving, and performance. Data from the past five years reflects an overall average of 92% in math, 92% in English, 91% in social studies, and 92% in science on the Virginia Standards of Learning tests. Data from each year’s tests are analyzed in order to determine areas of strengths and weaknesses. A team approach is used to address any weak areas. A 30 minute “Gladiator Block” is scheduled daily in order to provide students with the opportunity for remediation, make-up work, and enrichment. Technology is an integral part of instruction at RHS, and will become even more so with the implementation of a digital transformation. This initiative is designed to engage students and provide them with the skills necessary to become 21st century learners, employees, and citizens. The staff at RHS has embraced this initiative by incorporating Google Classroom and sharing through Google Communities. There are numerous opportunities for students to develop character and leadership through various clubs and organizations. A true sense of ownership is instilled within the students, parents, community, and staff who share “Red Pride.”
