Longfellow students collaborate to improve learning and to share ideas.

Longfellow students collaborate to improve learning and to share ideas.

Longfellow School is located in the heart of downtown Wheaton, Illinois on the grounds of the first public school (built in 1874 to serve students in grades 1-12) in DuPage County. The 50 staff members of Longfellow School serve approximately 400 students in kindergarten through 5th grade in a warm and caring child-centered environment. Staff, parents, and students collaborate continuously and form a school community dedicated to the learning and growth of each student. Staff collaborate on all aspects of the school day and take pride in supporting all students. All staff, from classroom teachers, specialists, and support staff meet together to brainstorm, plan, and learn to utilize the knowledge and expertise that each individual possesses. Each staff member continues to challenge him or her self to learn and grow as well as to support and encourage one another in their growth. Beyond academics, Longfellow School strives to know the whole child and to meet each child’s social and emotional needs. There is a strong sense of community between students and staff that is fostered through mutual respect and high expectations. Parents and community members are a regular sight at Longfellow School and can be seen volunteering in the classroom, working in the library, and helping with programs and activities. The PTA is also very active in the school supporting enrichment activities, field trips, cultural arts programs, and technology for the classroom. Longfellow School truly is a special place to learn and grow, inspire and engage. We are proud of our school!
